It's happening again...

I had to drop out of all my fests, which killed me a little bit. Maybe I'll pick up the podfic fest in exchange... I can still dictate, I imagine. Though, I guess I couldn't edit it, after... hm.

I'm scheduled for another hand surgery on Friday (this will be the 3rd on this hand in 5 years). My reconstruction failed, and now we have to salvage my wrist the best we can. Details available here if you want them. But basically, my recovery time completely spans what remains of all the writing time for fests I was signed up for. So guess I'm peacing out of all of those.

And now I'm starting a very panic-fueled 4 day stretch in which I try to prep everything possible for my surgery.

FUN!

We got our power back, and the boil advisory on our water was finally lifted. Internet has returned, and our things are mostly unscathed.

There had been some computer upgrades happening when the storms struck, and I'm still trying to see if we can salvage some of my fandom work. The non-fandom things thankfully were backed up recently enough I didn't lose much of anything. But I hadn't backed up the rest, which means the last two fests I'd signed up for are suddenly looking a little more problematic.

I missed my chance to do my rarepairs wishlist, which kind of sucks, but I can at least look at filling some wishes for others while I wait to see if I've lost the last month and a half of fics. If I have, I'm likely going to have to drop one of my fests because I know there's no way in hell I can recover that. It was a long fic and I just don't think I've got the capacity to do it all again.

Oh well. We'll have to see how that plays out.

Brief Update

Hey, LJ/DW/IJ.

For those that don't know, I live in the area of Ohio that got hit hard by the tornados on Monday night. Our power is still out, and water just came back on last night, though it's still under a boil advisory. My family and I are all safe, and our house is standing with some thankfully minimal damage. But my ability to do much online is very limited right now and entirely dependent on a phone I can barely keep charged.

So if I'm not around much for the next few days, that's why. Still waiting to see what kinds of damages we took in terms of electronics, my work, and to our food, as those all depend on power coming back to check.

At a minimum, we've lost everything in our fridges, to the tune of a $200 grocery trip two days before the storms. There's about $300 more in my deep freezer that I can't check yet, for fear of compromising the temperature. So we'll see how that plays.

Computers were all off, but if we got a surge, my desktop could be fried, not to mention my husband's systems. There's a lot of my work hinging on how that went, both fandom and not.

But everyone is in one piece and the cats are fine as well. So it could always have been worse. Since one of the tornadoes skimmed right past our yard (no joke, we heard it come by, & saw the pathing map they released and confirmed), it very nearly was worse.

For anyone who can and feels generous, if you see some aid posts for areas of Trotwood, Celina, Dayton, or Beavercreek, anything is appreciated by the people here. I've seen some streets where houses are just gone, buildings caved in, and so much damage all around. I'm sending what I can to areas hit worse than we were, but knowing how bad it is in some places, I know every little thing will help.

So if you can do something to help, through Red Cross or some other organization, I can tell you from in the thick of it that any aid is appreciated by the people here. We're all trying to help each other as best we can, but there's only so much we can do right now as we all recover ourselves.

Anyhow, phone is gonna die soon, so I'll see y'all when I can. Be good to each other, yeah?

It really is a lovely fic, with a good bit of post-war healing packed into it. Whether the 'stuck in animagus form' thing is your kind of trope or not, I think this is really worth the read. There's a good bit of emotion packed into it, but not in an overly dramatic way - it's very subtle and very real.

I'm gonna go read it again!

Writing things in-between stretches of dealing with a resurgence of depression. Had to drop out of one of the fests I'd signed up for because of it. We got some less-than-ideal news several weeks ago which I knew was going to lead to stress. In the long run, it was much worse than anticipated, so I'm glad I dropped out when I did, rather than try to tough it out. After this week, I'd have had to drop regardless.

For anyone who cares to know, there's a post here.

In other news, I've signed up for something else, which isn't due for several months, so that should be fine. Contemplating another fest with a reasonably lengthy timeline, mainly due to knowing once I get through this initial starting phase, I'll need the distractions just to keep my head above water. And there's that one I found the other week and posted the promo banner for, too.

I've also been working on something for a friend, though I suppose, like everything else, that's going to get set aside for a few days.

It is what it is, I suppose.
